Graphics Design and Clipping Path
In the heart of Bangladesh's creative
landscape, it thrives as a leading graphics media house, heralding innovation
and excellence in image editing and multifaceted design solutions. This dynamic
hub represents a convergence of artistic flair, technological finesse, and
strategic creativity, catering to a diverse clientele with a myriad of design needs.
A Graphics Media house is one that
provides all services related to Graphics design.
We talk about s such a company (we assume
CB) in Bangladesh. The services of the company were providing image editing
services to E-commerce Companies based in Europe and Asia.
This was some several years ago. The company provides the following services:
·
Clipping Path
·
Retouch
·
Color Correction
·
Shadow creation
·
Ghost Mannequin. The first
time I heard the term, reminded me of “Ghost Busters’’
·
Neck join
Collectively they are
called Image Editing or photo editing services. These services are completed
using Adobe Photoshop.
The Pen Tool from
Photoshop is used and that is just 1% of total Photoshop capabilities. People
working here think that they are graphics designers’’ but that is not the case.
This is manual work and which is being replaced by automation.
I foresaw this a decade
ago. I advised about the need for diversity and fortunately, the company CB
took my advice.
Before Editing
The structure of an image editing Company
About 20 -30 people work
in a shift. In the case of CB since they work with well-known European and US
Brands, the no of people is 10 times.
There are usually three shifts:
·
Morning
·
Evening
·
Night
Each shift has more than
1 team leader who is commanded by two production managers. One of the PMs is
the assistant PM.
The designers stick to
the task they are supposed to do. That is they give real quality work provided
it is the current work. The designers do not focus on any other work if not
advised by their managers.
That is a big team who
are experts in their jobs, whilst providing quality and timely work.
The fact is these
designers have experience of more than 10 years and dealing with brands such as
Rolls Royce, and Mercedes. Really? Yes.
The brands then (a
decade) ago did not give directly. The brands give to some German Media House.
The German Media house gives it to the company (I was working with then) by
FTP.
Once this is downloaded
it's distributed throughout the LAN network. It is then redistributed from the
LAN to individual designers.
Which brands and companies need bulk e-commerce
photo editing?
The thing to understand quality and color
are not the same for every client. That is a client C1 (from Germany)’s
understanding of blue and client C2 (Netherlands)‘s blue won't be the same.
What to do in this case?
The wisest thing to do is get instructions by email in a PDF or
text file. In the above case of color,
take the RGB or Hexadecimal value. Many times the client does not know himself.
In that case best thing would be taking a sample picture. Otherwise having a
vague or uncertain idea about a job would be problematic.
Rights of Pictures
Many companies
or brands think about the rights of pictures they want to give to the Graphics
Media House.
That is covered in the NDA or Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Once that is signed by the Client Company and Graphics House, there is nothing
to worry about. The NDA basically says that pictures, materials, or info given
cannot be used by Company 2(Service Provider) be used in ways other than for
which permission is given.
E-commerce
And Apparel Companies need E-commerce Bulk Image Editing services.
E-commerce and Apparel companies like H&M need
needs bulk image editing services. The Studio house of companies has a flow
that is planned. The designers there are engaged in other creative work for
example. Spending 16 hours on a day on
image editing would be a loss.
2000 per day would require a team for say 10-11 hours.
The size of the team would matter. Then there is QC checking the quality and
many other factors involved. The best thing is to outsource to a company say in
Bangladesh.
Savings-
About
40-45% savings if a company outsources its image editing (based on certain
things like Quantity and how long)
Automation
and manual Post Production
Yes, there is automation in the industry. What is the
advantage of manually editing pictures?
Simply put –One is Slice Bread and the other is a
Tortilla or handmade bread. Both are bread except the taste of hand bread is
really great. Another thing is many times other creative operations are
necessary and automation cannot handle it.
I once asked to a Director of a US footwear brand why
she paid so much attention to the clipping path work instead of the other work
like color correction and retouching, she gave us. She replied that once the
clipping path is of good quality, the rest of the work will be of quality. What
she said was true. This I have known since was on the Production team once.
Various
Graphics Design Services
It is not just image editing services that are
outsourced.
They include:
Video
Post-Production Services
Companies like ASOS for example would need video
editing.
This would include:
·
Motion Graphics
·
Video Compositing
·
VFX Services
·
2D Animation
3D
Modelling
·
Product Visualization.
·
Interior Visualization
3D Animation
·
3D Product Design and Render
·
The idea is for one Graphics Media house able to
provide all.
Yes, this is possible from Bangladesh. The idea is to save time, efficiency,
and quality.
I remember about an incident a decade ago, a European
top management owner doubting if Bangladeshi designers could produce a physical
interior of an office. The answer was yes and he found it out. The fact is
Bangladesh has quality people who are enthusiastic and have proven to give
quality work. The garments industry is an example. The Brands like:
·
H&M
·
GAP
·
ZARA
And other brands are giving making
their garments in Bangladesh. The first time I heard it I was shocked. Bangladesh should indeed concentrate in other
development areas other than garments. Have a plan B. My knowledge of Graphics
Design and image editing companies in Bangladesh came from working with them in
various roles.
